If, from the start:
  • a sterile diluent is used,
  • cleanliness and careful handling are maintained,
  • contact with the external environment is minimized,
then the risk of bacterial contamination is already low. Bacteriostatic water does not compensate for poor sterility practices and does not “fix” a contaminated solution. It only slows the multiplication of microorganisms if they appear.

That’s why the key factor is not the choice of water itself, but proper handling and sterile technique. When peptides are used correctly, the risks are minimized.

Bacteriostatic water is mainly used for storing solutions where prevention of microbial growth is required. In the case of lyophilized peptides, the stabilizers and preservatives added to the powder form already provide protection, so there is no need to add additional stabilizers such as bacteriostatic water beforehand.

Of course, you can use it — that’s completely fine. We simply considered sterile water to be the more suitable option, also because we were able to source this diluent from a pharmaceutical-grade supplier.
