Has anyone here heard any recent news about Bimagrumab (BYM338)?
I’m really curious why this compound is still so difficult to find and why nobody seems to be producing an accessible version of it.
What makes Bimagrumab especially interesting is its mechanism. It’s a fully human monoclonal antibody targeting activin type II receptors (ActRIIA/ActRIIB), blocking signaling from myostatin, activins and other ligands involved in limiting skeletal muscle growth.
And the interesting part is that this isn’t just theoretical. Human clinical trials have demonstrated increases in lean mass and skeletal muscle volume, while some studies have also shown substantial reductions in body fat.
From a bodybuilding/body-composition perspective, that’s obviously extremely interesting: potentially more muscle tissue, greater muscle size/hypertrophy, preservation or increase of lean mass while losing fat, and an overall fuller/more muscular appearance as body composition improves.
There are compounds such as YK-11 that often come up when people discuss myostatin and muscle growth, but they’re really not comparable. Bimagrumab is a targeted monoclonal antibody that has undergone human clinical trials, while YK-11 is an experimental synthetic steroidal SARM-like compound with extremely limited human safety and efficacy data.
So what I don’t understand is:
• Why has Bimagrumab never become widely available?
• Has anyone heard anything about BYM338 being produced or becoming more accessible in the future?
• Why hasn’t the research/underground market shown the same interest in it as peptides, GH-related compounds, SARMs, etc.?
• Is manufacturing a monoclonal antibody simply too complicated and expensive?
• Are there other ActRII/myostatin-pathway drugs currently being developed that could offer similar effects?
Considering the potential combination of muscle growth, increased lean mass and significant fat reduction, I’m surprised there isn’t much more discussion about BYM338.
